I am an artiste; I art.

About the Artist

Megan White is an artist specializing in ceramics.  In her work are elements of self.  She combines ideas that are skin deep with those fighting to break out.  Art is her therapy, meant to stimulate growth and healing.

Born in Seattle and raised in Oregon, Megan grew up with an innate love of drawing and crafts.  In high school she took every art class offered.  It was here that she discovered her passion for ceramics.  After high school Megan’s art went on hiatus as she completed the Navy ROTC program at Oregon State University and started her career as a Naval Officer.  With her creation on hold her inspiration flourished.  Her initial stationing in Hawaii provided her the opportunity to “see the world” instilling a deep love for travel and culture.

The Navy took a heavy toll on Megan.  Her creative and upbeat personality put her at odds with others and her relentless drive for self-perfection put her at odds with herself.  A deep depression set in and almost took her life; in 2017 she left the Navy, moved home, and began the difficult road to recovery.  After settling in Silverton, Oregon Megan came across the Willamette Art Center (WAC).  One intermediate wheel class from the talented Jim Ransom was all it took to reignite her spark.

Megan continues to create daily at the WAC both on the wheel and off.  The WAC provides both the space for her to create as well as mentors like Karen Hackney, Nikki Svarverud, and Doug Dacar.  In her pottery Megan finds joy creating things she loves as well as help for her depression and anxiety.  Some days it’s the excitement of seeing a finished piece come out of the kiln others days it’s the only motivation to get out of bed.  But she’s here, she’s doing it, and she loves it.

When not in the studio, Megan enjoys travelling, rockhounding, visiting gardens-like the fabulous Oregon Garden in Silverton, and snuggling with her fur children- a ragdoll named Abigail, a dachshund named Frances, a minuet named Kevin, and a miniature Australian shepherd named Gemma.
